Welcome to our Craft feature
This week we're diving into craft, making textile, cylinder and plaster puppets, calico bags, worry dolls and Arpilleras. These activities give children a wide range of skills in thinking in three dimensions whilst encouraging them to push their manual dexterity creating objects that they can be proud of.

This project is designed to suit normal classroom conditions and illustrates how to adapt the classroom to create the working space required. Puppetry is sometimes neglected by teachers as planning and sourcing materials takes some time, but this can be solved by planning ahead and by asking parents to contribute recyclable materials in advance.

A creative and economical way to make puppets at home, or in the classroom.
Puppets especially designed for young children
This project offers young children the opportunity to create with cardboard or milk cartons, paper, felt, fabrics and many more recyclable materials.

Plaster puppets
Paul Klee inspired plaster puppets
Suitable for 10 to 15 years old students Paul Klee made 80 puppets with his son Felix, they used bits of fabrics from old clothes to cut up and to make the puppets costumes.

Paper Maché Masks
This Project uses the face as a vehicle for expression to create a 3D character and develop a better understanding of other people and cultures.

Knowing the purpose of a mask helps you understand its significance. Masks have been designed to depict animals, characters in drama, good and evil spirits, and mythological characters. In ancient Greek comedies and tragedies, for example, actors used masks when playing different characters to conceal their own identity and take on the identity portrayed by the mask.
