Art Lessons for Children
My teaching of the visual art involves the major disciplines of Fine Art, painting drawing, printmaking, sculpture, design and art history. I think it is essential to teach young children the Elements of Design such as line, shape, colour and Principles of Design such as balance, contrast, harmony and to expose them to the history of art, “Art Stories for Young Children”.
I have been teaching art to children from year one to year twelve for 20 years privately at my art studio, at primary schools around Brisbane and at QUT, within the School of Early Childhood.
Philosophy:
I believe my role as an art teacher is:
To provide children with a variety of old and new mediums showing them the processes and giving them personal freedom to create their visual language and to develop their own techniques.
- To discuss ideas with the children to help them to develop a bold imagination and an inventive risk taking approach to art.
- To inspire children to invest their work with originality, imagination, expression and meaning – the essential qualities to art.
