Here is a sample of paper collage, this is a great project to do with young children.
I had the opportunity to present this project for the 1998 “Out of the Box, Children’s Festival” in Brisbane, Australia. Cate Fowler, the Director of the 1998 Festival commissioned me to create an activity to offer to young children involving the Art of Eric Carle.
It took me months to create this project, I had to interpret and adapt Eric Carle’s technique so very young children could do and enjoy painting and collage. 7000 children participated in this activity during the week of the festival. We had children as young as 2 years old coming with their parents to enjoy the experience.
After many years teaching this project in schools, as an artist in-residence, and teaching at my Studio, I decided to publish this Tutorial, as Eric Carle is still a very popular author that teachers, parents and children enjoy reading together.
The “Out of the Box Children’s Festival”, opens in Brisbane next week and I’ll be there to enjoy it, the ambiance and the many children engaging in the arts.
